Couldn't get a stump out until I tried the water trick

Pulled a 4 foot oak stump in Austin last week and my 20 ton jack just kept sinking into the dirt, so I drilled holes, filled em with water, and let it sit overnight. Next morning the whole thing came out like a loose tooth, has anyone else had that work or did I just get lucky with the soil?
