My worm bin leaked through 3 layers of cardboard last Tuesday

I thought I had the drainage handled with a bin inside a bin, but the bottom tray cracked and coffee ground sludge went everywhere. Took me 5 hours to scrub the carpet and I lost a whole batch of red wigglers to the dry heat in my trash bag. I'm switching to a 5 gallon bucket with a spigot and a mesh screen instead of trying to patch the old setup. Has anyone else had luck with a DIY drip tray that actually catches everything without getting gross?

Ugh, I feel this in my bones... I used to swear by the cardboard trick, thought it was the eco-friendly answer to everything. Then mine did the exact same thing, only it was on a Sunday and I had company coming over. Now I'm all in on the bucket with a spigot, honestly it's the only thing that's ever kept my floor dry and my worms alive.
