I finally stopped tossing citrus peels after a neighbor called me out
My downstairs neighbor told me the orange peels were making her bin smell like a rotten fruit salad, so now I freeze them and add them slowly. Anyone else get feedback that changed their whole composting routine?

Wait, so your neighbor actually complained about the smell of rotting citrus? I would have just told them to mind their own fruit business, haha. Freezing them is smart though, I tried burying mine deep in the pile but the squirrels still dug them up like a treasure hunt. You really gotta hand it to people who care enough to call you out on your compost game, most folks just let you live in your stinky orange peel fantasy.

Ha, I had a buddy who learned this the hard way too. He was throwing whole avocado pits into his backyard pile and his neighbor kept finding them in her garden after a storm washed everything over. She finally came over holding a soggy pit like it was a murder weapon and asked him to please chop them up or something. Now he grinds them up with a rock hammer before adding them, which looks ridiculous but works. The freezing trick sounds way less insane than what my friend does. Sometimes you just gotta admit when your compost is being a problem for other people.
