I finally noticed more neighbors using countertop compost bins
I mean, it seems like every time I'm in the shared trash room, I see those small kitchen bins full of food scraps. My building doesn't have a big compost set-up, so people must be dropping theirs off somewhere. Idk, maybe it's just me, but it makes me think more folks are trying to cut down on waste from cooking at home.

You said they're trying to cut down on waste. But like, is a kitchen bin of scraps really that big a deal? Most trash is packaging from stuff they bought anyway. Feels like a tiny drop in a huge bucket. People just feel good about doing a small thing. The real waste is way bigger than food scraps.

But what's the actual impact of tossing food scraps? @park.nathan has a point about packaging waste being huge. Think about all the plastic wrap on groceries or those clamshell containers from takeout. That stuff piles up WAY more than banana peels. Are we just feeling good about a small step while ignoring the REAL trash factories? It seems like a tiny fix for a massive problem.

My compost pile grew a whole pumpkin plant once, which @jenkins.miles might find more useful than plastic wrap.
