Went to a con last weekend and noticed everyone skipped the screening rooms

I was at Anime Expo on Saturday and walked past like 4 different screening rooms that were showing some pretty popular series. They were barely half full while the artist alley was absolutely packed, like sardines in a can. I mean, I get wanting to buy merch and see the art, but when did watching the actual anime stop being the main draw? Is it just me or do cons feel more like shopping malls now?

Isn't that just how everything is now, we prefer the experience over the thing itself?

OMG same. I bought this super fancy espresso machine thinking I'd become some kind of coffee connoisseur but honestly half the time I just stare at it and end up using instant because the whole process feels like a chore. Spent like 400 bucks on a "bean to cup experience" just to realize I value hitting snooze three times over fresh grounds. Classic me, prioritizing the idea of being productive over actually doing the thing!
