Remember when we had to wait for fansubs to finish a series?

Back in 2008, I was following a show and my download folder was full of files from different groups like Dattebayo and Live-eviL. You'd get episode 5 from one team and episode 6 from another, with totally different fonts. Now I just open Crunchyroll and the next episode is ready in HD, no hunting needed. It's way easier, but I kinda miss the community scramble of it all. Did you ever have a favorite fansub group you'd wait for?

Seriously, their old forums were the wild west. I read a deep dive last year about how their early translation notes basically taught a whole generation how fansubs worked. The quality fell off hard later, but for a while, nothing else even came close.
