Just realized baking soda pasted on my copper coins did the opposite of what I wanted
I dug up six crusty Roman coins near an old farm in Modesto and tried the baking soda plus lemon juice trick I saw on YouTube, and two days later they came out looking pink and stripped instead of nice and brown. Turns out the acid eats the patina, which is the only thing holding those coins together, and now I have three coins that are basically smooth slugs. Does anyone have a soak method that just lifts dirt without wrecking the surface?
