Rant: the light meter app on my phone ruined 2 rolls before I got a real one
Was at the beach in Santa Cruz last month and burned through 2 rolls of Portra 400 trusting a free app on my phone, every shot came back about a stop and a half dark. My phone screen looked fine in the sun but I guess it was reading the glare off the water and feeding me bad numbers the whole afternoon. Borrowed my buddy's old Sekonic for the next roll and the difference was night and day, same camera, same lens, just a real reading. Now the phone only comes out to check the tide, not the exposure. Anyone else got a Sekonic they swear by or is there a cheaper meter that actually holds up in bright light?
