Hot take: a lab tech in Denver ruined my Portra 400 batch and taught me to always write my own notes
Dropped 5 rolls of Portra 400 at a lab in Denver last month. Came back with 3 rolls totally blown out, and the guy behind the counter told me their developer ran hot that day. Now I write the ISO and push info on every canister with a Sharpie before I hand anything over, even at labs I trust. Has anyone else had a lab cook their film and did they actually make it right?
Heard a story on a film podcast about a guy who lost a whole wedding shoot because the lab cross processed his rolls by mistake. They gave him free dev for a year but that doesn't bring back someone's wedding photos. My local lab actually writes your push info right on the bag in front of you and has you sign off on it, which seems like the bare minimum. Writing on the canister yourself is smart because once it leaves your hands you have no control. If they cooked your film they should at least refund the cost of the rolls, Portra isn't cheap.
