A PT assistant corrected my gait cueing, took 3 weeks to unlearn my old habit

So I've been doing gait training with patients for about 4 years now, always using the same verbal cues like "heel strike first" and "push off harder." Last month a PT assistant I work with pulled me aside after a session and said I was overloading patients with too many instructions at once. She said pick one cue, wait for them to nail it, then move on. I tried it with a 62 year old stroke patient in Milwaukee and progress came way faster. Now I'm wondering, how do you guys decide which single cue to give first? Is there a standard order or is it totally patient specific?
