Unpopular opinion: the best week of my career started with a busted nose gear door
Had a rough Monday last week, found a cracked hydraulic line on a King Air during a pre buy in Tulsa that turned into a two day job. Then Wednesday a new kid on the floor asked me why I always torque the gear door bolts in a star pattern instead of just running them down, and honestly I couldn't give him a good answer, I just learned it that way. So we looked it up in the manual together and turns out I'd been doing it right but never knew the reason, and showing him that felt better than any sign off I've done in a while. Ended the week with zero come backs and a kid who actually wants to learn, which is more than I can say for my last three apprentices. How do you all handle it when somebody asks why you do a thing a certain way and your only answer is muscle memory?
