Update: My air fryer salmon turned into a dry mess last night

I was so excited to try a new air fryer salmon recipe for date night. I followed all the steps carefully. But it came out overcooked and tasteless. My partner was disappointed, and I felt like I wasted good fish. Has anyone else had issues with timing on air fryer seafood?

Did you check it early? Salmon cooks so fast. I go by the finger test, not the timer.

Wait, you actually use the finger test on salmon? @karen_wilson That sounds crazy to me. Salmon is so delicate and cooks in minutes. The finger test is for steaks, not fish. I always use a thermometer for exact results. Poking salmon with your finger can ruin the texture, and I learned that the hard way with overcooked mush.

Honestly, have you considered how the salmon's thickness changes how the finger test works? Tbh, a thin fillet needs way less pressure than a thick steak cut. I just gently touch the top with my fingertip to feel the firmness, not poke it. Ngl, it takes practice but you can avoid overcooking without a thermometer. Once you learn the slight bounce back, it's pretty reliable for getting that tender finish.
