The demo looked great until I asked about the data

Saw a vendor pitch their AI scheduling tool at a logistics meetup in Columbus last Thursday. The dashboard was slick, autopicked routes, saved 18% on fuel in their sample run. Then someone asked where the training data came from and the guy went quiet. Turns out it was mostly simulated traffic patterns from 2021, not real fleet telemetry. I've seen this happen 3 times now with AI startups, they optimize for pretty output, not messy reality. Am I wrong for thinking we should demand proof of actual field testing before anyone buys in?
